Mission and Responsibilities

The Perquimans Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a non-profit subdivision of the State of North Carolina and is charged by state law with the responsibility of promoting conservation and coordinating all the resource activities within Perquimans County. The Board of Supervisors are elected officials and have the responsibility of carrying out the NC Agriculture Cost-Share Program that was set up by the General Assembly in 1985 to address non-point source pollution. Here are a few of the programs and types of assistance offered by the district:

The Perquimans Soil and Water Conservation District helps make up the Albemarle Soil and Water Conservation District (Chowan, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Camden and Currituck Counties). The Albemarle SWCD is the only multi-county soil and water district in the state.

The Perquimans SWCD partners with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Albemarle Resource Conservation and Development Council (RC&D) to carry out natural resource conservation programs and projects throughout the county.

These programs are offered to everyone, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
